On Purgatory this is part 3… By Patrick

A Series of 4 consecutive POST on the topic of Purgatory (explained and Justified).

This is Part 3 of 4

This IS Part 3 of  4 “We go on for those who have a head with ears attached and that actually are able to hear; (Wich means to correctly understand the teaching).

For five centuries now there have been countless debates (which had NOT existed for the prior 1,500 YEARS) on the existence of (and for that matter a need for) the existence of Purgatory. Having now shared the ground work for the older than 2,000 year Old Catholic Doctrine; I hope to now share

(1) The “nature and effects of sin”

 (2) Explain God’s Rationale for creating Purgatory

(3) And share; when understood the biblical evidence for it’s necessary

  • God’s Premise for Purgatory:

Purgatory exist because of the very nature of sin. Not all sins are of equal in amounts the amounts of guilt they incur. And venial (lesser sins) won’t send a Soul to hell; while death with even ONE- mortal sin (and the name itself implies); that is unconfessed; unremitted and not even regretted, will. …WHAT! “one lousy sin” can send me to hell?!

(Rev.21:27)” But nothing unclean shall enter it, (Heaven) nor anyone who practices abomination or falsehood, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.”

Here’s THE translation: God speaking: Cf. I’m Perfect therefore nothing unperfected will enter into my presence. Cf. (2 Tim. 3:17; Mt. 5:48)

  • What sin is, what its effects are and its two basic natures: (1 Jn. 1: 8-1 & 1 Jn. 5:16-17 & John 20:19-23)

[16] He that knoweth his brother to sin a sin which is not to death, let him ask, and life shall be given to him, who sinneth not to death. There is a sin unto death: for that I say not that any man ask. [17] All iniquity is sin. And there is a sin unto death

So if you consider yourself a “Christian”; consider yourself warned. “Death” here of course means a spiritual; an eternal death of your Soul; which YOU have freely chosen to place in danger of Hell. Why-so? Because All mortal sins are so grievous to our Perfect-God; that they create a breech; a schism between you and God until and unless with True Contrition; one turns back to God, and seek His forgiveness through HIS way of sin forgiveness; Sacramental Confession.

Douay Catholic Bible  with Commentary: (2 Tim. 3:16-17) “[16] All scripture, inspired of God, is profitable to teach, to reprove, to correct, to instruct in justice[17] That the man of God may be perfect, furnished to every good work.”

(D B C) [16] All scripture,”: Every part of divine scripture is certainly profitable for all these ends. But, if we would have the whole rule of Christian faith and practice, we must not be content with those Scriptures, which Timothy knew from his infancy, that is, with the Old Testament alone: nor yet with the New Testament, without taking along with it the traditions of the apostles, and the interpretation of the church, to which the apostles delivered both the book, and the true meaning of it.” End of quotes

(John 20:19-23)” [19] Now when it was late that same day, the first of the week, and the doors were shut, where the disciples were gathered together, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them: Peace be to you[20] And when he had said this, he shewed them his hands and his side. The disciples therefore were glad, when they saw the Lord. [21] He said therefore to them again: Peace be to you. As the Father hath sent me, I also send you. [22] When he had said this, he breathed on them; and he said to them: Receive ye the Holy Ghost. [23] Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained”

(D B C) [19] “The doors were shut”: The same power which could bring Christ’s whole body, entire in all its dimensions, through the doors, can without the least question make the same body really present in the sacrament; though both the one and the other be above our comprehension.

And guess what: Here it is from the King James Bible: “23 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained” …. So use your own logic; what does THIS ACTUALLY-as in “literally” SAY; and WHO is saying it?….

Folk’s; ahhhh, this IS GOD speaking! Do you suppose that this is just accidently included in the bible?

My kid sister who I loved dearly was an ? I LOVE YOU Jesus; THANK YOU Jesus Christian (which I greatly admired), who died about 2 years ago now. On a short-trip with her she asked me if “I was saved?”… I told her “Yes and I still in the process of being saved…    The she said “what the heck does that mean?” and I replied “Salvation is a life-long-process…. She was just quiet so I asked her if she had a bible handy. … She replied yes in the glovebox. So I got it out and it was KJB of the NT only; which was all that I was looking for. … I read The above John 20:23 passage to her and she asked me to read it again (obviously not aware of it; or so it seems to me.) So I read it to her a SECOND TIME AND REMINED HER IT WAS FROM HER KJB…. Then I asked her what she thought it meant; she replied: “I don’t know but it doesn’t mean what it said!” … Then without pause; she went on to tell me she didn’t want to talk anymore about religion. (I just smiled and said a prayer for her.)  … And if you’re a protestant; do ya think God will accept that answer?(Would you?)

Protestants often hold and teach that Christ has ALREADY done “everything”(Sufficient/ Substituted- Atonement”) needed for their salvation once “they have received Christ as their “personal Savior.”  … Can one’s salvation really be that simple? That easy?Really?

Sin falls into 2 categories: Mortal and Venial [greater and lesser] (1 John 5:16-17) ; and ALL sins accrue a concealed  that God Himself applies to All sins; because (1) all sins have a public nature; that is affect others besides the sinner; and All sins are an affront upon God’s very goodness; God basic Nature.)  This is due to the “public nature” of all sin, meaning that all sins affect- others besides the sinner themselves; hence God Himself imposes and penalty that must be repaid “I full” in order for that Soul to enter into heaven.

The terms mortal, deadly, grave, and serious applied to sin are synonyms, each with a slightly different implication. Mortal and deadly focus on the effects in the sinner, namely deprivation of the state of friendship with God; grave and serious refer to the importance of the matter in which a person offends God. But the Church never distinguishes among these terms as though they represented different kinds of sins. There is only one recognized correlative to mortal sin, and that is venial sin, which offends against God but does not cause the loss of one’s state of grace. (Etym. Latin mors, death.) Father John A, Hardon’s Catholic Dictionary

(1 John 5: 16-17) “[16] He that knoweth his brother to sin a sin which is not to death, let him ask, and life shall be given to him, who sinneth not to death. There is a sin unto death: for that I say not that any man ask. [17] All iniquity is sin. And there is a sin unto death. (Does not mean only one specific sin: for example, both slander which ruins a person’s reputation and Murder are both Mortal sins;  an-on-to-spiritual death sins. And there are very many others as well.

Because God directly imposes this guilt for sins-debt; God alone knows the amount of debt He will REQUIRE to pay that debt.   This debt is repaid with as Christ as the comptroller, by charity, prayers, sacrifices and Indulgences [a separate topic] … This is biblically grounded.

(Matthew 16:18- 19) “[18] And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. [19] And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven.”

“To bind and to loose” were common Jewish-Law-terms; enforceable in Jewish courts of Law. There are two definitions: (1)  Unlimited Powers of Governance to make and enforce, and void Laws (2) The Power to forgive mans repented & Confessed sons (John 20:19-23)”…..  [23] Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.”

The point being that the CC does have the God given; God assured Powers to mandate way’s to repay this debt while still on earth: charity; prayers; sacrifices and indulgences (which is a separate topic.”) The thing is with just one exception dealing with indulgences; only God knowns even by these works; how much of the debt has been repaid.

God’s rationale for creating Purgatory is based on Love, Mercy and the Divine Nature that MUST include Fairness and Justice.

          “Why a “MUST-include” is inescapable”

Genesis 1:26-27 teaches that God choose to “Create us in his own image”John 4:23-24 teaches us “that God is a Spirit” and all must worship him ‘in spirit and in TRUTH.’ ”

So how does physical, mortal man; emulate our Eternal-Spiritual God?

This is accomplished by one the most astonishing teaching in the bible (which poor translation have Bastardized: Douay Catholic Bible which even in English predates the JKB by about 10 years if my memory serves?)

Genesis2:6-7 [6] But a spring rose out of the earth, watering all the surface of the earth. [7] And the Lord God formed man of the slime of the earth: and breathed into his face the breath of life, and man became a living soul.” Wow! Man emulates our God because our Human Souls similar to our GOD are immortal and rational.

So why is humanity “rational”? = a mind, intellect and a freewill which are permanently attached to all human Souls. We alone in the created universe can and are alone enabled to Know GOD (even through the universe by itself,) which exist precisely and exclusively for this very reason. If, and to the extent that we cooperate with God’s grace, we can then know Him in other ways that are beneficial to our personal salvation. We will each be judged on the extent of cooperation Offered BY US with regard to God’s OFFER of grace, (which varies somewhat for every human Soul); which in turn ultimately determines our salvation. The greater one’s acceptance of grace; the more grace we accept and rightly apply; the greater are the odds of one’s personal salvation.

Someone who steals a candy-bar from Walmart (for kicks); cannot be judged by GOD with the same penalty as someone who commits adultery; or kills an innocent baby in the womb. As the NORM; stealing a candy can’t send one to hell; the other two offences Do hold that possibility.

So consider and ponder this:

Soul (A) steal the candy bar, unrepentant; unconfessed (John19:29:23); unforgiven

Soul (B) also dies with the same conditions in place

Soul (A) has a small-sin on his Soul and hence is “imperfect” and nothing imperfect can get into heaven

Soul (B) though has a grievous-Mortal sin on his Soul and has thus chosen for himself Eternal-Hell

So let’s assume Protestants here are correct and that ONLY Heaven and Hell exist (thank God that their not)… What happens to Soul (A).(and NO, God doesn’t let him squeak-by (He Can’t and Still BE our “Perfect God”) Which does explain God’s… Why I Did It question.

Before closing out this section; allow me to address WHY Protestants Can’ t( and this IS the correct word here),  understand what they are reading.

(Matt. 11: 15) “ [15] He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.”

((Matt. 13:43) “ [43] Then shall the just shine as the sun, in the kingdom of their Father. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.”

(Mark 4: 9) “[9] And he said: He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.”

(Mark 7:16) [“16] If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.”

(Luke 8:8) “[8] And other some fell upon good ground; and being sprung up, yielded fruit a hundredfold. Saying these things, he cried out: He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.”

(Luke 14:35) “ [35] It is neither profitable for the land nor for the dunghill, but shall be cast out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.”

(Acts 2:14) “[14] But Peter standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and spoke to them: Ye men of Judea, and all you that dwell in Jerusalem, be this known to you, and with your ears receive my words.

(Acts 28:27) “[27] For the heart of this people is grown gross, and with their ears have they heard heavily, and their eyes they have shut; lest perhaps they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.”

If that’s not enough then permit me to add these:

(Matt. 10: parts of verses 10-34

[10] And his disciples came and said to him: Why speakest thou to them in parables?

[11] Who answered and said to them: Because to you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven: but to them it is not given. [12] For he that hath, to him shall be given, and he shall abound: but he that hath not, from him shall be taken away that also which he hath[13] Therefore do I speak to them in parables: because seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. [14] And the prophecy of Isaias is fulfilled in them, who saith: By hearing you shall hear, and shall not understand: and seeing you shall see, and shall not perceive. [15] For the heart of this people is grown gross, and with their ears they have been dull of hearing, and their eyes they have shut: lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

[16] But blessed are your eyes, because they see, and your ears, because they hear[17] For, amen, I say to you, many prophets and just men have desired to see the things that you see, and have not seen them, and to hear the things that you hear and have not heard them.

[34] All these things Jesus spoke in parables to the multitudes: and without parables he did not speak to them. [35] That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world.”

The permit to ask this question on your behalf: “Is EVERYTHING NESESSARY FOR ONES SALVATION?”

(John 20:29-31) “[29] Jesus saith to him: Because thou hast seen me, Thomas, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and have believed. [30] Many other signs also did Jesus in the sight of his disciples, which are not written in this book.[31] But these are written, that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God: and that believing, you may have life in his name.”

(John 21:24-25) “[24] This is that disciple who giveth testimony of these things, and hath written these things; and we know that his testimony is true. [25] But there are also many other things which Jesus did; which, if they were written every one, the world itself, I think, would not be able to contain the books that should be written”

(John 27: 37-40) “[37] And whereas he had done so many miracles before them, they believed not in him: [38] That the saying of Isaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he said: Lord, who hath believed our hearing? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed? [39] Therefore they could not believe, because Isaias said again: [40] He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart, that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.”

God who can be briefly defined as “All good things perfected”

God cannot judge fairly all sins being of equal consequences: thus Mortal and Venial sin exist

Man exist so that we might freely choose to know, love, worship and serve God [Isaiah 43: 7 & 21]

God desires to save as many souls as are willing to accept His grace and OBEY Him fully Acts 28:20; Mt. 10:22 & 1st Tim. 2:4; which are the underpinning for purgatory.

Each of these DO reference Purgatory when CORRECTLY UNDERSTOOD.

Lev.22: 21 “And when any one offers a sacrifice of peace offerings to the LORD, to fulfil a vow or as a freewill offering, from the herd or from the flock, to be accepted it must be perfect; there shall be no blemish in it”

Rev.21: 27 “But nothing unclean shall enter it, nor anyone who practices abomination or falsehood, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.”

Matt.5:26 “truly, I say to you, you will never get out till you have paid the last penny.”

Matt.5: 48 “You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

Heb.2:10 “For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through suffering.”

1John.3: 2 – 3 “Beloved, we are God’s children now; it does not yet appear what we shall be, but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. And every one who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.”

1Cor.3: 13 – 14 “each man’s work will become manifest; for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a

          WHY Purgatory?

Because having created Purgatory for the state of imperfect man countless more souls will be enabled to enter the Beatific Vision. God’s Presence

Because God is PERFECT, in order to enter into heaven, man’s soul too must either be perfect upon death, OR perfected AFTER death if the Soul dies with no unconfessed or forgiven Mortal sin. WHAT is her understanding of Mortal sin and Sacramental Confession?

1 Peter 1:16
Because it is written: You shall
be holy, for I am holy

Matthew 5:48
Be you therefore perfect, as also your heavenly Father is perfect

(Mt. 13: 10-15) “[10] And his disciples came and said to him: Why speakest thou to them in parables? = (This term is to be rightly understood “as speaking to them in mysteries”) … [11] Who answered and said to them: Because to you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven: but to them it is not given. [12] For he that hath, to him shall be given, and he shall abound: but he that hath not, from him shall be taken away that also which he hath. [13] Therefore do I speak to them in parables: because seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

(Mark 4: 10-12) “[10] And when he was alone, the twelve that were with him asked him the parable. (The meaning hear is “the mystery”)[11] And he said to them: To you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but to them that are without, all things are done in parables (Meaning: hidden and concealed from them): [12] That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand: lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.”

(John 12:37-40) “[37] And whereas he had done so many miracles before them, they believed not in him: [38] That the saying of Isaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he said: Lord, who hath believed our hearing? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed? [39] Therefore they could not believe, because Isaias said again: [40] He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart, that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.”

WHY Does Purgatory Exist?

(10 Because God, in order to be our “Perfect”; Fair and Just God; In an absolute sense had to create a Fair and Just; dare I say; “LITTLE-SINNERS” (1 Tim. 2:3-4) “[3] For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour, [4] Who will have all men to be saved, and to come to the knowledge of the truth. [5] For there is one God, and one mediator of God and men, the man Christ Jesus”

(1 John 5: 16-17)” [16] He that knoweth his brother to sin a sin which is not to death, let him ask, and life shall be given to him, who sinneth not to death. There is a sin unto death: for that I say not that any man ask. [17] All iniquity is sin. And there is a sin unto death”

God cannot treat the candy bar thief the same way He would treat a murderer; NOR can God who IS PERFECT; permit any-human-Soul- to enter in to heaven; which too is either not “perfect” upon death of the that Soul’s mortal body; Or, OR cannot be made “perfect” by purging its sins, OR the Temporal Punishment which ALL sins accuse; (even forgiven sins- I’m truly sorry that you were not aware of that contingent.)
